About me: Who is Marta Bretó?
Since I was very young, I have always felt deeply attracted to nature and art. Perhaps that is why, after finishing my art studies, I went to live in the Pyrenees, where I trained as a low and medium mountain guide. During my stay in the Aran Valley, I began to feel drawn to photography as a way of capturing images and sharing the beauty of the natural world with others. That is how I ended up training as a professional photographer through a university degree, which I completed in 2014. It was then that I decided to combine everything I loved (art, nature, and photography) and make it my way of life, both personally and professionally.
Throughout my career as a professional photographer, I have created projects that have resulted in books, exhibitions, and audiovisual documentaries. I have led more than 30 photography trips to places such as Scotland, Iceland, Poland and Sweden, and I have connected with hundreds of students with whom I have shared knowledge and unforgettable experiences.
In 2018, together with my partner Tato Rosés, I created INDOMITUS, a project that combines our passion for the wild, both personally and professionally. Through INDOMITUS, we share our expeditions into the wild with the world and offer photographic experiences that have a positive impact on both the participants and the wildlife and the natural and social environment in which they take place.

She is a Technician in Physical and Sports Activities in the Natural Environment, with a degree in Photography and Digital Creation and a postgraduate degree in Advanced Audiovisual Post-production from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
She works as a teacher of nature and audiovisual photography, specializing in landscape astrophotography, subjects on which she teaches courses and workshops at private and public institutions, such as the UPC’s Center for Image and Multimedia Technology and Casanovafoto, among others.
She is a teacher and guide for photography trips at INDOMITUS, where she organizes trips and expeditions such as “Bialowieza: on the trail of the European bison” (Poland), “Arctic fox expedition (summer and winter editions)” (Iceland), “Hidden gems of the Highlands” (Iceland), and “Lapland: Europe’s wildest corner” (Sweden), as well as organizing smaller-scale theoretical and practical courses and photography excursions.
He is a member of the Spanish Association of Nature Photographers (AEFONA), the Catalan Society of Nature Photographers (SCFN), and the MontPhoto Community, and has collaborated with associations and entities related to photography and nature, as well as its conservation and dissemination, such as EDC Natura and the prestigious international nature photography competition MontPhoto, where he has been in charge of the audiovisual section for years.
She has participated in collective and solo exhibitions such as Sideral, Aurora Borealis, 66ºN: The Arctic as you’ve never seen it before, and Del Congost a la Calma, a project which, like Sideral, also consists of a self-published book of which she is the author. She is also author of Melrakki. The Hidden Lord of Iceland, a conservacy project about the icelandic Arctic fox which consists in a book and a documentary.
She is also the author and co-author of up to 10 trekking and adventure films, shot during personal expeditions to remote areas of Iceland, Lapland, Pakistan, and Alaska. With these documentaries, she aims to highlight the importance of keeping the last wild areas of the planet intact.
She has participated in a large number of festivals, events, and conferences where she gives talks on a variety of topics, always related to photographic travel, night landscapes, nature photography, audiovisual projects, and self-publishing of various printed works.
He has won several mentions and awards in prestigious photography and video competitions. His images have also been published in magazines such as Lonely Planet, National Geographic Travel, Terre Sauvage, Vertex, and Descobrir Catalunya.
I have never been very involved in competitions and I participate less and less. Even so, I wanted to organize and make a list of all the awards and honorable mentions I have received in the competitions I have participated in.

The importance of awards in the audiovisual field goes beyond promoting my way of telling stories. Awards and mentions make it easier to share our vision with others. In my case, the audiovisual projects I carry out serve to conserve and protect wildlife, so being officially selected for a festival and knowing that my film can be seen in other places, moving people and sparking dialogue on these issues is the greatest reward.

Between 2014 and 2021, I mainly collaborated in many talks during Casanova Fotoweek, the Photography and Nature Symposium in Vila-Real, and the Nikon School, among others 🙂
“Take nothing but photographs. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time.” Anonymous.
When I carry out my projects, whether personal or commissioned, I try to do everything possible to treat the environment, flora, and fauna with the respect they deserve. This means that no plants have been uprooted, no landscapes have been dirtied, and the peace of the fauna has not been disturbed. Unless otherwise specified, all my photographs have been taken in natural settings and without any kind of captivity. In the same way, I try to convey this respect to potential viewers of my work.
