Sideral

Sideral is the result of almost 10 years of photographing the night sky. It is a book about the stars through the eyes of photography, science, nature, and myths. A book for everyone who enjoys looking at the sky. From stars and constellations to the magnificent Milky Way. From the movements of our satellite to phenomena such as eclipses, comets, and northern lights: Sideral is a passionate journey through time and the magic of the night in the company of the stars.

The book is also full of adventures and personal experiences. Each photograph is accompanied by a description, which may be an astronomical explanation, a photographic technique, a discussion of composition, or even a personal story. In addition, to the delight of photographers and enthusiasts, all technical settings, such as shutter speed, aperture, camera, and lenses used, are shown for each image in the book.

More about the project

This book is 100% self-published, with the aim of creating a final product that is faithful to my original ideas and designs, giving me total control over all aspects of its final form, from layout and design to the type of paper and inks used. What’s more, it is an environmentally friendly book. The products used to manufacture the book come from well-managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits. In addition, H-UV inks have been used, which prevent the loss of color intensity in the photographs, improve brightness without the need for varnishes, and are environmentally friendly as they pollute much less by not emitting ozone. No plastics have been used for the storage and transport of the books.

As if that were not enough, it is one of the first books in the world to use the XCMYK system. This new system allows the range of colors that can be represented in printing to be expanded, avoiding the loss of tones, saturation, and intensity in images that occurs when images are converted from RGB (screen colors) to CMYK (print colors).

Color test for the book

The project also included a photography exhibition featuring a total of 42 photographs, which opened at the Museu Torre Balldovina in Santa Coloma de Gramenet before traveling to other Catalan cities such as Barcelona and Baqueira-Beret.
